Topic: Decision-making in the Age of Big Data Speaker: Dr. Errol Wirasinghe Location: Online Meeting (Zoom) Date: Tuesday, 6/21/2022 Time: 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM CDT Cost: Free PDUs: 1.5 Category: Leadership Description: Even trained professionals make lousy decisions. Regardless of how critical the decision might be, in the face of information and choice overload, many managers find it hard to even entertain the idea that they might be making sub-optimal decisions. In 1956, Professor George Miller of Princeton University published research showing that humans can process only a limited amount of information at a given point in time. Today—when we are constantly bombarded with information—this becomes even more of a problem. This 90 min. workshop on Decision-making in the Age of Big Data (ABD) provides an insight into the Perils and Pitfalls we face when making decisions in the age of big-data. Attendees will learn about decision-contamination, and decision-manipulation, and how to remedy this situation. Decisions pertaining to recruiting, site selection, bid evaluation, procurement, etc., are driven by multiple criteria. Selection of relevant criteria, and determining their relative significance, is a challenge. Why you should attend (D): https://xpertus.com/Why-D.mp4 Objectives: After this workshop participants will be able to: • Recognize human irrationality and illusions that creep into decision making, and put multidimensional, real-world problems into proper perspective. • Understand key factors that impact decision making. • Master the skill of making optimal decisions with greater speed, accuracy, and confidence. • Present and defend decisions with ease. • Understand the difference between problem solving and decision making. • Define and utilize appropriate criteria in the decision-making process. • Implement an analytic hierarchal methodology when making decisions. • Minimize risk by validating decisions.
