Topic – Rivalry Saturday:
An Odyssey Inside College Football’s Most Storied Games
Synopsis - Everything is a project, even your dreams. In 2004 - 2005, Steve and Dave went on an odyssey inside college football’s most storied games. This ultimate road trip included 39,000+ miles, 14 weekends, 18 top rivalry games, and the National Championship Game. The end result was a great book entitled, Rivalry Saturday: An Odyssey Inside College Football’s Most Storied Games. Obviously, this expedition and book took many hours of planning and execution. During this month’s meeting, Dave and Steve will discuss the planning and strategic details of their Rivalry Saturday journey.
Steve's Bio -Steve Waite is the Executive Director for the Office of Information Security at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He graduated magna cum laude from Mississippi College with a degree in Sociology, and earned a master’s degree in Healthcare Law from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.
Steve is a former chairman of the board for Goodwill Industries Mississippi and continues to serve as a board member. Prior to being hired as a project manager at UMMC a little more than 10 years ago, Steve spent 20.5 years with Gannett Co. Inc., first in the newsroom and the final 11 years as an I.T. executive, three times earning a President’s Ring for Excellence.
In 2004-2005, Steve co-authored Rivalry Saturday with Dave Hollingsworth, one of the most challenging and rewarding projects in his professional life. Steve lives in Brandon with Amy, his wife of 37 years. They have two adult daughters and two rescue dogs.
Dave's Bio - David Hollingsworth is the President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Mississippi. Goodwill of Mississippi’s mission is to assist those with disabilities and other barriers obtain employment, paving the way for an independent life. He has served at Goodwill for eight years, the last five as the 9 th CEO in the organization’s history.
Previously, Mr. Hollingsworth held executive sales and marketing positions in the book publishing and newspaper industries, including ten years as market development director at The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Mississippi. He is committed to community service, serving as President of the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and on the Board of the Mississippi Council for Economic Education.
His leisure pursuits include writing, history, college sports, backpacking and outdoor pursuits, and travel. He co-authored a nationally published book on college football, Rivalry Saturday: An Odyssey Inside College Football’s Most Storied Games. He has two daughters, Molly and Paige and currently resides in Brandon, MS.
